That’s a little bit of in-camera magic. It’s just a matter of lighting the background differently than you light the kids. As long as the background has significantly more light than the kids, you’ll lose all color detail and it will go completely white. You can do the same thing by putting your kid (or subject) in the shade on a bright day and shooting with a full sunny background behind them. The only trick to that scenario is that you have to use your camera on manual mode and expose for the shadows. Otherwise, your camera will get all smart on you and give you a kid that’s too dark and a background that’s too bright. Try it and let me know if it works!
